Why choose turmeric for dogs?
Before there were pharmaceuticals, pills and medications, health was maintained through the use of herbs, spices, oils and plants. Everything needed to treat many ailments and maintain good health can be found in nature.
Modern society has become accustomed to quick fixes. Turning to pharmaceuticals to solve the symptoms of our ailments has become the norm for many, rather than tasking the time to understand the root cause and tackle that by making lifestyle and dietary adjustments. We’ve let our desire for quick fixes roll over to the way we care for our dogs too.
Often the first port of call whenever a concerning symptom arises is a trip to the vet, resulting in costly bills and pills. Yet pharmaceutical medications don’t solve the underlying cause, they simply treat the symptom and can sometimes result in nasty side effects too.
We at ProDog are all about fuelling dogs the way nature intended and that includes viewing food as the foundation to good health. Embracing the power of mother nature will make a huge difference to the health and vitality of your dogs and we’re here to help! I have a greyhound approx. 75 lbs. I would like to feed him fresh turmeric and was wondering how much to feed him on a daily bases.
Best regards
Paul
Hi Paul. The recommended dose of turmeric for dogs is 15mg–20mg per pound of body weight per day, 1/8 to 1/4 tsp per day for every 10 pounds of body weight.
This is a rough starting point, start slowly and work your way up. Adding black Pepper and some fat (coconut oil or other) makes it more effective also. It is advised to give turmeric in smaller amounts a few times a day because curcumin leaves the body quickly, especially if you are addressing an inflammatory issues naturally. Hope that helps
