What are low purine foods for dogs?
The lowest purine foods include things like dairy products, leafy green vegetables (with the exception of spinach), non-acidic fruits, eggs, nuts. Moderate purine foods are muscle meats from non-game animals such as beef, lamb, pork and poultry.
Whilst some of these options aren’t ideal for your dog to eat, there are plenty of low purine raw dog foods and treats to choose from. Raw dog foods made from lower purine, high-quality proteins, without offal will also help to balance your dog’s purine consumption. See our offal free raw food bundle for a good selection.
What proteins have the lowest purines?
Knowing which proteins have lower purine counts is essential when considering what’s safe for your dog, even when feeding a raw diet. Generally speaking, the safest proteins are:
- Eggs
- Beef
- White fish (such as Cod, Plaice or Haddock)
- Lamb
- Turkey
- Chicken
- Pork
Thankfully, feeding a raw diet makes it even easier to keep your dog’s purine levels in check. We offer several lower purine raw dog foods throughout our various raw dog food options. You can also find a variety of lower purine dog treats throughout our natural dog treats range.
Is salmon oil high in purines for dogs?
Salmon oil is relatively low in purines when distilled and is highly beneficial to dogs due to its high Omega 3 content and anti-inflammatory qualities. To keep your dog’s purine content low, it’s not recommended to give salmon flesh/meat too frequently as this does contain purines.
Alternative sources of Omega 3’s include hemp seed oil and flaxseed oil, which are both considered safe for dogs. Additionally, you can browse our selection of dog supplements to ensure your canine pal is getting all the nutrients they need.

What treats are good for dalmatians?
As Dalmatians have the genetic makeup that causes them to be sensitive to high-purine foods, it’s important to avoid these when possible. Low purine dog treats are best for Dalmatians, as well as Beagles. Miniature Schnauzers, Basset Hounds, and several other breeds.
A good example of a healthy dog treat with low purine content is our roast beef pieces, beef paddy wak or calf hooves for the power chewers. Beef is a lower purine protein, and these are all nutrient-dense, delicious treats that your Dalmatian (or any other purine-sensitive breed) will love.
