Your dog, bounding about the park, or the garden, with more vitality than you’ve seen before. And with this new, natural diet, there are no more bad smells from either end, and they appear to have a new lease for life!
That’s the potential raw food effect!
Why do raw dog food diets work?
Dogs are designed to eat the way their ancestors did in the wild, raw and natural. From their teeth, to their gut and digestive system, it is abundantly clear that dogs are carnivores. The optimum diet for them is the one nature intended.
Dogs are best suited to fresh, high-protein prey-based diets. We call this ‘species-appropriate nutrition’ and is what a natural, raw diet seeks to replicate. A quality raw food diet contains all the healthy fats, biologically appropriate proteins and valuable nutrients your canine companion needs to thrive.
Check out our RAWbellion page for more on the crucial importance of species-specific feeding.
Why should you switch to raw dog food?
You may be wondering why you should make the switch to raw food when your dog seems fine eating what you usually put in their bowl.
There’s no doubt the canine species is resilient. Despite eating a diet which isn’t providing the natural components they may actually need, they will adapt and survive for some time. Still, there’s a world of difference between surviving and thriving.
Now this is where a little dog food history lesson comes in...
Kibble (dry dog food) was created during the second world war in response to rationing and the limitation of food. Processed dog food full of grains and other refined carbs was a cheap and easy way to produce a form of feed to give to dogs during this time of austerity. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a great business idea; cheap to manufacture with a significant profit margin. So through very creative marketing, kibble became the standard staple of many dogs' diets from this point right up to current day.
Before this, dogs were often fed on fresh table scraps of meat and bones, and were so much more robust as a result. We believe processed dog food doesn’t even come close to being species-specific. It offers very little natural nutritional value to a dog, often full of low grade, intensively refined and often synthetic ingredients. It can also be detrimental to a dog's health by causing inflammation and putting strain on vital organs, leading, in some cases, to a whole host of serious health conditions.
